Blackberry Hearing acquires The Hearing Company, Crumlin

Blackberry Hearing, a leading Irish-owned hearing healthcare provider, has announced the acquisition of The Hearing Company in Crumlin, a well-established audiology clinic with a strong reputation for patient-centred care.

This latest acquisition marks another significant milestone in Blackberry Hearing’s nationwide expansion strategy, following recent partnerships and acquisitions including Donegal Hearing and Access Hearing in Dún Laoghaire. The company confirmed that discussions are well advanced on further acquisitions, with additional announcements expected in the coming weeks.

Located near Crumlin Children’s Hospital, The Hearing Company has long delivered audiology services to both adults and children over the age of four. The clinic is particularly recognised for its paediatric expertise, having supported hundreds of children and families.

As part of its continued commitment to community healthcare, Blackberry Hearing is also working alongside the HSE to help reduce paediatric audiology waiting lists, improving access to early assessment and intervention for children.

Matthew Gleeson, Managing Director of Blackberry Hearing, said, “We are delighted to expand our services with a dedicated centre for paediatric audiology in Dublin. There are currently approximately 12,000 children on waiting lists for hearing assessments with the HSE. Through our new clinic in Crumlin, we aim to provide essential hearing support for children at an earlier stage.

Our experienced audiologists will work closely with GPs, ENTs and hospital teams, using advanced technology to deliver accurate assessments and tailored solutions for each patient. With early detection, more than 60% of childhood hearing loss can be prevented or effectively managed. Early intervention is critical to achieving the best outcomes.”

Hearing loss remains a significant national health issue. Research indicates that approximately one in twelve adults in Ireland live with permanent hearing loss, rising to half of those over 70. It is estimated that up to 300,000 adults could benefit from hearing devices, yet only around one in five currently uses them.

Founded in 2015 by Dave Gleeson and John Ryan, Blackberry Hearing was established to address a gap in the Irish market by providing high-quality hearing solutions at accessible prices. Over the past decade, the company has grown into one of Ireland’s leading hearing device providers, recognised for its commitment to customer care.

The company recently partnered with Tesco Ireland to launch dedicated hearing experience stores in five Tesco Extra locations and is now an official Tesco Clubcard Rewards Partner, with further retail expansion planned this year.

Supported by investment from Abbey International Finance, Blackberry Hearing has experienced strong growth and is well positioned for continued expansion. The company currently employs 50 people nationwide and plans to recruit an additional 15 team members by the end of 2026.

With more than 60 clinics and outlets across Ireland, including seven dedicated retail stores, Blackberry Hearing continues to strengthen its national footprint through strategic acquisitions and partnerships. For more information or to find your nearest clinic, visit www.blackberryhearing.com.
