The O’Loughlin family run, four-star Keadeen Hotel in Newbridge, Co. Kildare has just completed a €3 million renovation programme which has seen some major works taking place both in and outside the well-known Kildare property. The renovation programme started 18 months ago when a new Honeymoon Suite was created and many of the bedrooms were completely refreshed. The entrance avenue was also redesigned and replanted and a new wedding garden was created in order to add a new dimension to the existing wedding offering at the hotel.
The latest addition to the famous Kildare property is ‘The Atrium Lounge & Cocktail Bar’, a contemporary drawing room in the heart of the hotel. This elegant lounge enjoys light streaming in from both sides of the room through 15ft sliding glass doors and a 16-foot pyramid shaped glass ceiling which facilitates views to rolling clouds and the skies above. The space itself has been cleverly reimagined and is flanked on either side by two external Mediterranean Courtyard gardens which bring a touch of the outdoors in. At the centre of the room, and just beneath the glass atrium is a spectacular, contemporary fire place which is open from all sides and creates a great focal point in the space.
The Atrium Lounge & Cocktail Bar is the perfect venue for visitors to enjoy some pre-dinner speciality gins or to sample one of the many delightful combinations at the new Cocktail Bar, before settling in for some fine food served up by Executive Chef, Kevin Curran and his team.
As part of the renovation programme the main hotel restaurant has also been revamped and even renamed to ‘The Bay Leaf’. It is a fine dining, 2 AA Rosette restaurant and offers contemporary, Irish cuisine, specialising in steak and seafood. It too, enjoys fabulous views to the Mediterranean Courtyard gardens and is an elegant and opulent dining space.
Keadeen Hotel was originally founded by Joe and Rose O’Loughlin in 1970 and has remained in the O’Loughlin family now for almost fifty years. Today, Rose O’Loughlin runs the hotel with her two daughters, Kate and Anna and her son Joseph at the helm.
“We’re really pleased with the refurbishment and it is exactly what we envisaged when we took on this quite substantial project”, said Joseph O’Loughlin. “We have been getting great feedback in the first few weeks since the Atrium Lounge & Cocktail Bar has opened, it’s proving to be a great addition and compliments The Bay Leaf Restaurant very well. You are never really finished renovating or rejuvenating a hotel and that’s why we keep reinvesting in the property. We always want the hotel to be the best it can be and that’s why our guests have been returning to us for almost a half a century now.”
